To quickly set up an initial imaging location or “sweet spot”, TüN’s interface uses distance to automatically configure the initial millisecond delays. The ability to enter the distance from the desired listening location to each speaker is unlocked in the Set Up Tool’s configuration screen.
Simply measure the distance from the listening location to each speaker in the vehicle and input the distance in inches or centimeters (selectable in preferences). Distances can also be entered or edited after the initial set up in the “TUNE” tab.
In the TUNE tab, The TüN™ software provides separate entries for Speaker Distance and Additional Delay. This is very useful if you are using delay to optimize the sound for one listening position. Once you have set the Speaker Distance as it corresponds to each of the speaker distances in the vehicle, you can adjust the Additional Delay control for additional effect, while always having a reference to return to.
Speaker Distance: Displays the distances (in inches or centimeters) that have been entered in the Setup Tool's configuration screen. The values can also be entered or edited within these fields.
Additional Delay: Here, you can add delay to the delay calculated from the Speaker Distance value. Additional delay can be useful for adjusting the sound stage precisely. It can also help improve crossover transitions, and create spatial effects.
- Clicking the arrows moves the value approximately 0.1 ms.
- Holding the “Shift” key, while clicking the arrows, results in a step value of 0.01 ms, which is the minimum delay step value.
- Any entered values will be rounded up to the nearest available delay step.
Total Delay Display: Displays the total delay that is applied to the signal (the sum of the delay calculated from the Speaker Distance value and the Additional Delay). This is a display-only field.
Clicking the small checkboxes next to each “Additional Delay” entry field links the selected channels and allows delay changes to be applied to these channels. This makes adjusting a group of speakers (such as the entire side of the vehicle, front or rear speakers) more convenient.
