TwK®: DRC-200/205 Operation

JL Audio DRC-200 Digital Remote Controller TwK TuN

The DRC-200 is a dual concentric control knob that is included with the TwK® 88 and TwK® D8 System Tuning DSPs. The DRC-200 connects to the JLID port on the TwK®’s chassis, offering master volume control, preset switching as well as the option for either subwoofer control, zone control, balance or fading abilities.

The DRC-205  is a dual concentric control knob that is optional for the TwK® 88 and TwK® D8 System Tuning DSPs. The DRC-205 connects to the JLID port on the TwK®’s chassis, offering master volume control, preset switching as well as the option for either subwoofer control, zone control, balance or fading abilities.

The Inner Knob on the DRC-200/DRC-205 is used for master volume control and PRESET selection.

The Master Volume is controlled by rotating the Inner Knob (clockwise for louder and counter-clockwise for quieter). Using a master control knob for volume is useful in vehicles that have volume dependent equalization (EQ curve changes with the volume level), where a linear response is desired.

Pressing the Inner Knob of the DRC-200/DRC-205 for 1 second toggles through the Active Presets stored on the TwK® unit. The multi-color LED attached to the DRC-200 can be installed in the vehicle and will display the color code of the Preset currently selected. The multi-color LED for the DRC-205 is a ring that is built into the base of the dual concentric knob. Read more about TwK® Presets

The Outer Ring of the DRC-200/DRC-205 can be configured in the TüN® software to perform the following functions:

Volume/Subwoofer: In this mode, the Outer Ring of the DRC-200/DRC-205 will control the level of selected channels, relative to the master volume. The most common use of the feature is for subwoofer control (hence the naming), but it can be used to control the relative level of any selected channels: tweeters, rear fill or a center channel, for example.

Zone 1 & 2 Volume:  When Zone Control is selected in the TüN® software, the outer ring of the DRC-200/DRC-205 becomes a fully independent level control for the selected channels. The level of channels selected to this mode will not be affected by the Master Volume level.

Volume / Fader:  The Balance / Fader mode allows you to assign one group of channels to the left side of the Outer Ring's center, and another group of channels to the right side of center. The assignment is done in the TüN® software. These level controls are relative to one another. At the 12 0'Clock position both sets of channels will play at full level. Rotating the control to one side will attenuate the opposite side's channel(s). At no point will either set of channels exceed the level at the 12 0'Clock position. This is how Fader and Balance controls in head units operate. TwK® gives you the power to create simple or complex fading behaviors with this tool.
